On February 15, 2015, shortly after 1000 hours, Box Alarm 7-5 was sounded alerting stations 7, 2, 10, 9. 8, BC 2, 1, EMS1, and S1 for the reported townhouse fire in the 5400 block of Ring Dove Lane in Columbia. Units arrived on the scene to find an end-unit, three stories in the front, and two stories in the rear townhouse with heavy fire showing from all three floors. A second and eventually a third alarm was sounded bringing units from stations 9, 11, 6, 1, 5, AA Co. 29 and 21, Burtonsville 715, Baltimore County 4, AU 17, and a host of support staff to assist.
Crews went to work in a defensive mode with multiple hand lines and Master Streams. The fire spread to the Bravo-1 exposure as well as embers starting small spot fires across the street and around the rest of the block. Firefighters were hampered by extreme cold temperatures as everything iced up in the entire block. The fire was brought under control within one hour and it would take several more hours for salvage and overhaul operations. BC2 (Uhlhorn) had Command. The cause is under investigation at this time by HCDFRS Fire Investigation and there were no injuries reported.
