On May 5, 2015 32 Recruits graduated from the Baltimore City Fire Academy. Of these, 26 EMT/Firefighters will be assigned to suppression units, 4 Paramedics will be assigned to Medic units, and 2 are members of the U. S. Coast Guard Yard located in Curtis Bay.
The Class 14-02 graduation was well attended by the families and friends of the recruits as well as Firefighters, Chief Officers and Command Staff of the Baltimore City Fire Department.
Under the direction of Deputy Chief, Director of Training Alex J. Perricone the recruits completed 7 months of extensive training that included Firefighter 1 and 2, HazMat Operations, Public Safety Educator, and EVOC. The EMT course was given to those who did not have it and the current EMT’s and Paramedics in class were assigned to ride along on units in the field. There were several weeks of BCFD skills. Live fire burns were also conducted.
A big part of the class was physical fitness. A new gym facility was recently donated and installed by the Under Armor Company and it was put to good use by the new recruits.
Aide to Chief of Fire Department, Roman Clark presided over the ceremony and badges were presented to the graduates by Assistant Chiefs Jeffrey Segal and Mark Wagner. There were several individual awards presented to deserving recruits including: Highest Academic Achievement, Best Fitness and Most Improved Fitness.
All of the graduates would report to their assigned companies within the next few days to start their careers.
Another class of 60 EMT’s is scheduled to start in early June.
