Around 4:00AM Medic 15 was returning from the hospital to their quarters on W. Lafayette Ave and Stricker St. when they came upon a fire in a 3-story vacant dwelling in the 600 block of N. Carey Street in west Baltimore. They asked for the box to be struck out for heavy fire in the top floors of a dwelling located at 638 N. Carey Street. When units arrived along with Battalion Chief 3 he made it a working fire at 4:05. Heavy fire was in the second and third floors and taking hold of the cockloft and extending into the dwellings on either side. Battalion Chief 3 asked for a second alarm at 4:08.
A ladder pipe was used in the front to get at the fire in the cockloft. Companies got into both exposures to cut the fire off.
The fire was finally brought under control after two hours. There were no injuries reported and Fire Investigation was called to the scene.
