On April 14, 2017 a single car accident resulted in a fire that engulfed the car and set the surrounding woods on fire. Around 1700 hours a lone driver in an automobile traveling north in the 5000 block of Franklintown Road lost control of his car and flipped it on its side immediately bursting in flames and setting the adjacent woods on fire. He managed to get out and was alongside the road when firefighters arrived.
Engine 53 was dispatched to the scene and when they arrived they found the car fully involved with the fire traveling up through the adjacent hillside in Leakin Park. They requested an additional engine and truck along with a medic unit to tend to the injured driver. The fire was brought under control within 20 minutes. The driver was taken to an area hospital with non life threatening minor injuries.
Baltimore Police were on the scene investigating the accident.
