On February 18, 2014 Anne Arundel County fire crews were dispatched to fire box 31-08 shortly after 4:45AM for an apartment fire at the Cromwell Fountain Apartments in Glen Burnie. They arrived to find heavy fire from a third floor apartment at 201 Water Fountain Court and quickly struck out a second alarm. Mutual aid companies from Baltimore City responded on the second alarm. About 55 firefighters from Anne Arundel and Baltimore fought the blaze.
Companies were somewhat hampered in their extinguishment effort because of the amount of items in the residence. Firefighters had to remove a lot of debris from inside the unit involved, but officials did not use the word “hoarder”. The fire was brought under control within 40 minutes. One woman escaped the blaze and was taken to a local hospital for treatment of smoke inhalation. Her injuries were not considered life-threatening. One firefighter was also injured when he slipped on the ice.
The original apartment involved was considered a total loss and a total of 11 units were damaged by fire, smoke and water. The Red Cross was called to the scene to help relocate those displaced by the fire. Fire Investigators were also on the scene to determine the cause. This was the second fire that occurred in this same building in the last few years.
