Baltimore firefighters had their second working fire of the day within two hours on November 28, 2023 around 1345 hours. Fire Box 33-21 was sent out for a dwelling fire in the 1900 block of Belair Road in the Berea neighborhood of northeast Baltimore.
Units arrived on location and reported heavy smoke showing from the middle house of a group of three stand alone, 2-story brick row homes, all of them being vacant. Companies in the rear reported heavy fire showing on all both floors of the building. The wind was blowing so ferociously that smoke was obscuring the view of the street as well as the structures involved. Units in the rear were situated on an open lot that was level with the second floor windows of the houses involved. They were set down about 15’ lower than the ground in the rear. Firefighters trained their hoses at the visible fire through the blinding smoke until it cleared enough for them to get into the building from their location.
Command requested a working fire assignment about 10 minutes into the incident. Companies were able to enter and attack the fire from inside in the front and the fire was brought under control within an hour. No injuries were reported and Fire Investigation was on the scene to determine the cause.
