Just after 1700 hours on October 14, 2015 Fire Box 2-23 was dispatched for an apartment fire in the 6900 block Milbrook Park Drive in lower Pikesville, near the Baltimore County/City line. Engine 2 from Pikesville arrived and found a large pile of trash burning in the rear of the Milbrook Park Apartments extending up to the roof of the 2-story brick garden style apartment. It then got through the eaves and into the attic spaces of two apartment units.
The fire quickly spread through the open spaces and 3 alarms were struck out within 20 minutes bringing about 100 firefighters with 35 pieces of apparatus. Firefighters went inside the upper apartments and pulled ceilings to check the spread of fire. The fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes.
About 24 apartments were damaged by fire, smoke, or water. The Red Cross responded and assisted about 50 residents from 24 families involved. The damage to the apartment was estimated at around $500,000.
Baltimore County FID responded and determined that the fire had been started deliberately in a large pile of trash and mattresses in the rear of the building. Police identified two boys, aged 11 and 12, as responsible for setting the fire. Both boys have been charged as juveniles in connection with this incident.
No injuries were reported as a result of the fire.
