Around 3:30 PM on April 6, 2012 fire box 52-2 was dispatched for a vacant dwelling fire in the 800 block of Druid Park Lake Drive in northwest Baltimore. Companies arrived to find a block of vacant 3-story rowhouses with heavy fire and smoke showing from the end of the group. The whole block was vacant and fenced in, slated for demolition, and basically empty shells. The top floors and roof were burning and exterior operations were immediately set up due to the deteriorated conditions of the structures.
Truck 16’s ladder pipe in the front and Engine 23’s monitor pipe in the rear knocked down most of the visible fire in a pretty short time. Companies then used hand lines from the ground and ladders to get into the inaccessible areas and the fire was brought under control in about 90 minutes.
No injuries were reported and Fire Investigation was requested to determine the cause.
